Admissions

Meet the requirements for the Superintendent Certificate

Admission to the Superintendent Post-Master’s Certificate online program is based on a variety of factors. You must submit all post-secondary academic transcripts and a $40 application fee.

  • Specialist’s degree with cumulative 3.25 GPA in graduate studies work
  • Transcripts from all previous colleges/universities attended
  • Proof of Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or out-of-state equivalent
  • All applicants must show they have at least two years of full-time administrative or supervisory experience on the following Illinois credential: General Administrative, Principal, Director of Special Education, or Chief Business Official
  • Qualifying for licensure at program completion requires passing the Illinois Licensure Testing System (ILTS) Superintendent exam
  • No GRE score required for admission
  • All applicants with foreign academic credentials whose first language is not English must demonstrate adequate English language proficiency in advance of admission
  • Proof of English Proficiency: requirements are minimum Level 4 (equivalent to TOEFL iBT 79), IELTS (6.5) or equivalent
  • Note: International students cannot receive a visa to pursue this certificate and are eligible to apply only if concurrently completing a face-to-face graduate program

Principle aspects in the development and maintenance of positive relationships and partnerships with staff, parents, and community at large. Social media and crisis communication strategies.

Theories and practices related to public school personnel planning, selection, evaluation, and dismissal. Principles of human motivation and development.

Nature of leadership and organizational change. Creating and implementing a collective vision through strategic planning and situational decision-making.

Students will take the full calendar year field-based internship in 6 consecutive 2 credit hour increments.

Conducted in clinical setting under direction and supervision of school administrator and department faculty member. Comprehensive field experience designed to relate theory to practice for those preparing for district-level administration. Emphasis on district-level leadership, management, and school improvement. Requires admission to a program leading to superintendent's certification and consent of advisor.
